Minturn Anglers has been hosting our Introduction to Fly Fishing for years now and we are proud to have been apart of the start of so many anglers fly fishing journey. During the course of a day you will learn the fundamentals of rigging, bug life, river structure, and river etiquette so that you can start to get out and fish on your own while not feeling overwhelmed.
The class begins here at the Lone Tree location where students will get a short gear tour to help familiarize them with the basic gear and tackle they will need to do some fishing on their own. From here students will be outfitted with waders and boot for the day and purchase their terminal tackle for the on water portion of the class.
Rod, reel, waders, and boots are included in the cost of the class while terminal tackle is an additional charge. If students have tackle of their own they are encouraged to bring it with them to the class. For those who need to purchase tackle Minturn Anglers offers it to students at a discount.
After the shop tour students will follow the instructors to the South Platte River below Chatfield reservoir. Our first hour is what we call Streamside Education where we will talk about how to setup your rod, what knots you need to rig up, as well as bug life and river structure.
Armed with the information from the morning students will now spend about 3 hours actively fishing with the instructors assistance. Our hope is that students are tying their own rigs and selecting bugs on their own based on the instruction given to them during the Streamside Education.
This is not a guided trip, the hope is that students learn enough from a day on the water with us that they can start fishing on their own. If you are just looking to catch fish and are less concerned with the why and how then we recommend a guided trip.
