South Platte Deckers Fishing Report 7/1/2026

The flows at Deckers are currently 255 cfs, and the fishing is great at the moment! The slightly higher flows have kept the water cool and the fish happy. Ample hatches of BWOs, caddis, midges, PMDs, and stoneflies have made for some awesome dry fly fishing in the afternoons, though good nymph fishing can be had throughout the day. Increased flows have also been kicking up some big bugs, making craneflies, leeches, scuds, and worms great options for nymph or hopper dropper rigs.

As always, nymphing has been productive throughout the day with caddis pupa, midges, and  PMD emergers being the stars of the show. Leading with a  Pat’s Rubber Legs, Pine Squirrel Leech, Brown San Juan Worm, or Blowtorch in sizes #10-14 is a safe bet, though staying on the smaller side has been crucial for midges, PMDs, and caddis pupa. An RS2, Graphic Caddis, Barr’s PMD Emerger, Slim Shady, or PMD Frenchie in sizes #16-22 have been solid choices when fished behind a larger attractor nymph. Fish are pushing into the riffles as the day goes on, so take your time in the shallow stuff and fish the river thoroughly!

Dry fly and dry dropper fishing is also a solid option at deckers right now, and has been especially productive in the afternoons and towards dusk. PMDs and Caddis are the main two bugs for dry fly enthusiasts, though midges, BWOs, and yellow sallies are also hatching in smaller numbers. An Elk Hair Caddis, Parachute PMD, Missing Link, or Cornfed Sally in sizes  #14-18 have been productive for late afternoon and evening dry fly fishing.  Hopper dropper rigs are also a good option right now, and can be a lot of fun when fished tight to the bank or in pocket water. A Chubby, Hippie Stomper, or Amy’s Ant in sizes #18-16 with a Frenchie, Blowtorch, or Jig Pheasant Tail ( #14-18) down below is a great choice for hopper dropper fishing.
