North Fork South Platte River | Long Meadow Ranch Fishing Report

On Monday September 2, I got the chance to get way from the crowds and fish Long Meadow Ranch

Having the river to ourselves and the overcast skies with light rain made for an ideal day on the water
Our morning on Long Meadow Ranch started out with searching patterns, fishing indicator rigs, dry droppers and streamers. Nymphing proved to be the most effective early morning with a good number of bows taking red leather worms and san jauns in sizes 6-10, as well as large stone fly patterns like Pats rubber legs in sizes 4-8(coffee color).  Mid day we picked up more fish  on larger ant patterns size 8-10, and tricos size 18-22, as well as more takes on the rubber leg and black rs-2’s sizes 18-22. The afternoon we transitioned to streamers and picked up more fish on black pine squirrel leeches sizes 8-10. The water was clear enough to spot fish and sight cast to a few. We were able to find fish everywhere, in deep pools and shallow riffles. Hatches consisted of tricos, midge, a few terrestrials and caddis. All in all, it was a great day to be fly fishing on the South Platte River, and to be able to have the entire property to ourselves made it that much better.
